Tulku Hungkar Dorje (1969–2025), a renowned Tibetan Buddhist master, educator, and philanthropist, was born in Golog, Amdo. He served as the abbot of Lung Ngon Monastery and was an expert in the Gesar tradition, a Dharma King of the Nyingma school, and founded the Hungkar Dorje Tibetan Vocational High School, earning widespread respect across Tibet and abroad.
Since August 2024, Tulku has been repeatedly harassed by the local authorities , reportedly because he did not give a grand reception as demanded by the authorities during the visit of the CCP-assigned fake Panchen Lama (Gyaltsen Norbu) to Golog last year. In early November of the same year, Tulku was reported missing, but in fact, he had fled to Vietnam to avoid arrest.

On March 25, 2025, he was detained in Ho Chi Minh City by Vietnamese police collaborating with Chinese agents. Transferred to local authorities on March 28, he died in custody around March 29 under suspicious circumstances. Authorities claimed he died of a heart attack without providing evidence or allowing family access.
Local sources revealed he was tortured to death, suffering blunt force trauma to the head and body. His body was cremated under strict surveillance by Chinese and Vietnamese police on April 20.
Throughout his life, Tulku practiced boundless compassion and vast wisdom, dedicating himself to benefiting sentient beings, upholding the Dharma, and promoting Tibetan culture. He generously supported dozens of elderly and solitary individuals in monasteries, provided financial assistance to underprivileged Tibetan and Han Chinese students to complete their education, built primary schools, and constructed roads and bridges in pastoral areas to improve living conditions.

He founded the "Gesar Welfare Foundation," leading efforts to provide disaster relief, distributing food, clothing, and medicine to countless impoverished people across Tibet. He established the Lung Ngon Monastery Nunnery, creating a path for Tibetan women to ordain and pursue spiritual practice. He also founded the "Hungkar Dorje Ethnic Vocational School," enabling children from pastoral areas to receive free education and skills training. Moreover, he promoted the establishment of the "Mayul Golog Gesar Cultural Heritage Center," devoting immense effort to preserving this precious ethnic heritage.
Tulku’s footsteps and Dharma teachings reached Vietnam, the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and have spread across the globe through the internet. His compassionate and altruistic Bodhisattva path earned the deep respect and admiration of followers worldwide. In fact, due to his numerous Dharma teachings in Vietnam, he gained a large following there, which is also the reason why he chose to seek refuge in Vietnam.

Today, this revered Buddhist master, whose life was devoted to compassion and wisdom, was tragically murdered in a foreign land. His body was placed under strict surveillance and swiftly cremated in secrecy. The truth has been heavily concealed. When the devastating news reached Tibet, it caused immense grief and outrage among tens of thousands of Tibetans. For days, despite government bans, local monasteries and communities have continued to hold grand mourning and memorial ceremonies, sparking widespread questioning and calls for the truth.
