Tsangyang Gyatso, a scripture chanter and financial manager at Zhenda Monastery in Sog County, Nagqu, was arrested on March 17, 2014, during a mass crackdown after authorities discovered Tibetans in Sog using phones and WeChat to share banned content, including Dalai Lama images, nationalist songs, and censored local news, as well as spray-painting “Tibetan Independence.” He was charged with “contacting foreign entities” and “inciting rebellion” and sentenced on October 1, 2014, to 12 years, with his term ending on March 17, 2026. His family was repeatedly denied visits and only allowed to see him three months after receiving the verdict.

Thupten Lodroe, a renowned Tibetan writer and scholar fluent in Tibetan, Chinese, and English, studied at a school founded by the Panchen Lama. After graduating, he taught in his hometown, rejecting high-paying government jobs to advocate for Tibetan language preservation. Despite his writings not violating the constitution, authorities repeatedly warned him and searched his computer. In October 2021, he was taken by police in Serxu County and went missing. Six months later, reports suggested he was secretly held in Chengdu, but his family remained uninformed. On June 26, 2022, sources revealed he was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months for “inciting separatism”,“endangering national security”, and “undermining ethnic unity”, with sentencing around June 14. The government provided no formal charges or location details. Known for his works on Tibetan society, economy, language, and culture, he was among the most influential Tibetan writers of his generation. Before his arrest, he faced repeated warnings for online posts, and authorities confiscated his computer, using its contents as "evidence" against him.

丹增曲培是他于 2018 年 3 月 30 日在拉萨贡嘎机场被捕，当时他刚从成都出差返回。在被单独监禁一年多后，他被当局以“煽动分裂国家”、“非法向境外发送情报”和“资助危害国家安全的活动”等罪名判处 18 年有期徒刑，并没收所有个人财产。
Tenzin Choephel He was arrested at Lhasa Gonggar Airport on March 30, 2018, upon returning from a business trip to Chengdu. After over a year in solitary confinement, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison on charges of "inciting separatism," "illegally sending intelligence abroad," and "financing activities endangering state security." His personal assets were also confiscated.

Tsewang Gyatso, a former school chef in Tangji Township, Xinlong County, Garzê, was suspected of involvement in a February 28, 2009, protest against Chinese rule, which led to clashes and a township government fire. He had also participated in a farming boycott and resisted state-controlled Tibetan New Year celebrations. Arrested on March 11 and detained in Chengdu, he was sentenced on November 17, 2009, to 16 years for “inciting separatism” and “disrupting social order.”

The Tibetan political prisoners we have presented here represent only a small fraction of the many more in Tibet. Countless others remain imprisoned, their stories untold, and their struggles continue in silence.
